Tesla Roadster will be on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum

Several people took to Twitter yesterday to announce that the all-new next-gen Tesla Roadster will soon be moving to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Tesla intends to reveal a new candidate version of the Roadster this summer, but it looks like the existing prototype version will be the one on display to the public.

With Tesla’s continued delays and production constraints, it’s even hard to imagine vehicles like the Tesla Roadster, Tesla Semi, and Cybertruck hitting the market anytime soon. With the arrival of the S Plaid model and repeated delays, one would think that there really is no need to worry about the Roadster for a long time.

It sounds like Tesla’s plan. He revealed the Roadster as a surprise in 2017, alongside the Tesla Semi. However, there hasn’t really been any noticeable progress in the development, production or delivery of these future cars since. When the Roadster was first revealed, CEO Elon Musk highlighted 2020 for its eventual launch.

As expected, the Roadster, along with the other vehicles mentioned, are yet to arrive. Tesla is prioritizing Model 3 and Model Y, and is working to help the electric automaker sell more cars. With the Cybertruck to come, the Roadster could be delayed for years and, depending on Electrek, Musk has hinted earlier that it could be 2022 before he arrives.

In more positive news, Musk has finally said that Tesla will have a fully functional exit candidate ready this summer. He also noted that the engineering of the supercar will be completed in 2021, with production plans set for 2022.

In the meantime, if you’re dying to experience the next-gen Roadster up close and in person, you’re in luck. Well, as long as you live near Los Angeles or can afford to get there.

The Petersen Automobile Museum will present the Roadster prototype to the public for two weeks starting May 19, 2021. You may recall that the museum had the Tesla Cybertruck on display for some time last year. The ad reads via Electrek:

“The Tesla Roadster is coming to the Petersen Automotive Museum for two weeks! Be one of the first to see the new Roadster alongside the original vehicle for this limited exhibition. We’ll be open seven days a week, with after-hours viewing opportunities for a more intimate experience. “
