TrendForce further reports that the growth of the electric vehicle market and improvements in ADAS specifications have resulted in a doubling of automotive MLCC consumption. While the electrified transmission of electric vehicles and high safety requirements present a high barrier to entry for MLCC vendors, these barriers in turn have also increased the ASP and profitability of MLCC products. As a result, the automotive electronics industry has increased its annual demand for MLCC to double digits in recent years. When it comes to MLCC suppliers, Japanese companies such as Murata, TDK, and Taiyo Yuden continue to dominate the MLCC automotive market. These suppliers will expand their production capabilities for automotive applications at overseas facilities in China, the Philippines and Malaysia next year, with powertrains, ADAS and connected systems among the most important of the aforementioned applications. Korean company Samsung, meanwhile, specializes in powertrain applications by leveraging the small form factor, high capacity, and high voltage of its MLCC offerings.
