Black Widow actress Rachel Weisz confirms her character’s official name and occupation after Jimmy Kimmel’s spoiler-heavy introduction.
Black Widow Actress Rachel Weisz has confirmed her character’s official name and occupation in a new interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
Weisz was more or less forced to confirm her character’s full name after Kimmel introduced her in a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as an actor playing “Melina Vostokoff”. When Weisz appeared on Zoom for the segment, she was obviously taken aback and immediately said to the host: âI think we are not allowed to say Melina’s second name. I think we are prohibited from say Melina’s second name. I think that’s a Marvel Cinematic secret. “

When Kimmel suggested he may have shared a spoiler, Weisz admitted, “I believe so.” The actor also revealed that when she was cast Marvel gave her a list of things she wouldn’t be allowed to reveal in interviews – which she quickly lost.
“The only thing I remember is – I know the big spoilers that I’m obviously not going to say – my character’s second name is like -” Weisz said, then mimed that his lips were sealed. Kimmel was quick to reassure Weisz that his character’s full name is already known to the public, noting, “It’s over there. It’s common knowledge.” He added, however, that Weisz probably should have kept Marvel’s roster, causing the actor to throw his hands up in defeat.
While Weisz was hesitant to reveal much more about her character, she admitted that – like Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff – Melina “is a black widow.” “She was trained as a Black Widow spy. She is a highly skilled spy and scientist,” the actor revealed. “She runs a … pig farm. And that’s where the family met me, in my science lab. I also breed pigs, which I experiment on.”
A visibly surprised Kimmel responded to the occupation revelation by joking that Weisz’s character is a “pig farm spyintist.”
During the interview, Kimmel also joked that he was cast to play Kraven the Hunter in an upcoming MCU movie, to which Weisz replied: “[Black Widow co-star] David Harbor was trying to tell you about it last night and you were pretty shy about it! “Kimmel’s joke referred to recent news that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who previously played Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver in the MCU, is playing Kraven. in the upcoming eponymous film – which takes place in the characters of Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel.
Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbor as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, OT Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff. The film arrives in theaters and on Disney + Premier Access on July 9.
