Brunei temporarily closes all sports complexes; actions taken after reporting local cases of Covid-19 after 15 months

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 9 (Borneo Bulletin / ANN): All indoor sports centers, including gyms, fitness centers, swimming pools and bowling alleys will be temporarily closed from Sunday Aug. 8, the ministry said. Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) of Brunei said in a statement.

The announcement was made in light of control measures highlighted at the Covid-19 press conference on Saturday following the emergence of cases in the local community in Brunei.

The country registered 17 new local cases yesterday and three new clusters have been identified.

The latest restrictions also apply to outdoor sports centers, including outdoor playgrounds and golf courses.

MCYS also informed the public and organizers that all sporting events are not permitted and should be temporarily postponed.

In addition, activity centers for the elderly, museums, galleries and libraries, centers for people with different capacities, including Pusat Bahagia in the four districts and day care centers, as well as MCYS service counters. and departments which depend on it will be temporarily closed.

Temporary closures of service counters are those of MCYS, Department of Community Development, Department of Youth and Sports, Bureau of Language and Literature, Department of Museums, Brunei History Center and of the National Service Program Division. – Borneo Bulletin / ANN
