Can you name Barcelona’s XI from Lionel Messi’s last game?

On May 16, 2021, Lionel Messi made his final appearance for Barcelona in a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Celta Vigo. How do you remember the occasion?

It wasn’t quite the deserved end to his marvelous Barcelona career, playing in an empty stadium in an insignificant defeat in the penultimate game of the campaign.

Messi surely boasts the greatest club career of any player in history, having won four Champions Leagues, 10 La Liga titles, seven Copas del Rey and six Ballons d’Or at the Catalan club.

He also scored a staggering 670 goals for Barcelona, nearly 450 more than any other player in the club’s history.

It’s no surprise the Argentine wizard scored in his last appearance, giving Barcelona the lead midway through the first half, but things went from bad to worse as they were reduced to 10 men and Celta Vigo made a comeback in the dying minutes.

Despite being part of the losing side, it was a wonderful individual display from Messi, who topped the top two and received a perfect 10/10 from WhoScored – it was a game he finished in the 15 dribbles he attempted. and scored eight shots on goal.

“I hope not [that it was his final game at the Camp Nou] because I think he showed his efficiency and he is still the best in the world,” Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman replied in the post-match press conference.

“This [would be] impossible to play without it. But it’s Leo on his own and in order to win more games and get more points, we need more players to score goals.

“Leo scored 30 goals and gave us a lot of points. But [his future] is a question for him. For me and for the club, we hope he will stay. Because if there is no Leo, we have doubts who will score the goals.”

Amid Barcelona’s financial struggles, a few weeks later, Messi bid a tearful farewell to Barcelona before joining PSG on a free transfer.

We gave you Messi for free, but we want you to try and name the other 10 players who were named in Ronald Koeman’s squad sheet against Celta Vigo this afternoon.

The time to beat of this one is 02:56. If you want another Barcelona-related challenge, see if you can name Barcelona’s top 30 goalscorers of all time?
