ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Senior Setter Celie Feighery (Sr., Herndon, Va.) was selected to serve as captain of the 2022 Navy Volleyball Team.
Feighery made seven starts and appeared in all 27 games Navy played last season. Playing much of the year in a 6-2 formation that featured her and Averi Miller (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) each passing three rotations on the court as a passer, Feighery averaged 3.17 assists and 1.09 digs per set last season.
Navy returns three starters, seven letter winners and 13 players from last year’s squad that placed sixth in the Patriot League regular season with an 8-8 record, beat Army in the quarterfinals of the league tournament and posted a 13-14 overall record.
Included among the returning starters is the middle blocker Maggie Bodman (Jr., Northbrook, Ill.), who earned All-League Second-Team honors as a rookie and sophomore and was named to this year’s All-Patriot League preseason team . She had a .268 hit percentage last year (eighth in the league) and averaged 0.93 blocks per set (seventh in the league).
Center Blocker Companion Anna Klemyer (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) also returns, a year after posting a .165 attack percentage and averaging .80 blocks per set. She made 27 starts last year and played in 94 of the team’s 96 sets.
Miller dished out 6.67 assists per set a year ago, an average that ranked eighth in the Patriot League. Miller and Bodman are the only two returning Mids who went all 96 sets last year.
Junior outside hitters and twin sisters Jamie Llewellyn (Port Deposit, Maryland) and Jordan Llewellyn (Port Deposit, Maryland) also return. Jamie ranked first in the Patriot League and 64th nationally with an average of 0.38 aces per set on the season, while Jordan led the league during the league season with an average of 0.48 aces. per set. Additionally, Jamie ranked second on the team last year with an average of 2.24 kills per set and Jordan is second to Jamie among returning players with his average of 1.95 kills per set.
Rounding out the list of return letter winners is a defensive specialist Chris Stephenson (Leesburg, Virginia). She played 16 matches a year ago.
Four freshmen are on the roster this season: setter Lainey Feighery (Herndon, Va.), outside hitter Anuhea Haunio-Lore (Honolulu, Hawaii), center blocker Julia Humphrey (Stokesdale, NC) and center blocker Ava Toppin (Carolina Beach, North Carolina). This will be the first time the Feighery sisters will be teammates.
Navy was expected to place fourth in the Patriot League this season. The Mids open their season with three games this weekend at the Maryland Invitational, then begin their home roster Sept. 1-3 when they host the Kristen Dickmann Invitational.
