BIRIMINGHAM, Alabama | The Gulf South Conference announced its awards for the 2021 volleyball season, and the University of Alabama at Huntsville was represented by Sabrina duncan and Kendall scharbert as winners of the First All-GSC team as well as Molly presnell with a selection from the All-GSC second team.
Scharbert earns her second All-GSC honor after winning the 2019 second team, while Duncan and Presnell each earn their first any conference honor. UAH has now had multiple All-GSC winners over four consecutive fall campaigns.
A native of Huntsville, Duncan helped guide the Chargers’ offense with 9.46 assists per set – totaling 955 assists in 2021 – to place second in the GSC in assists per set. Duncan also ranks third on the list with 258 digs, as she notched eight double-doubles in 2021 with digs and assists.
Scharbert – the reigning GSC Offensive Player of the Week – leads the team and ranks fifth in the GSC with a 0.328 winning percentage while also placing second on the Chargers roster with 246 kills. She’s posted hit percentages of 0.350 or more and 10 or more kills in nine different games, with her career best showing last Friday with a program record of 26 kills.
The Birmingham, Alabama native was also a key defensive player for the Blues and Whites, scoring 100 blocks overall and 1.13 blocks per set to place fourth at GSC.
Presnell has been the Chargers’ most successful all-rounder as she leads the team with 255 kills and 2.55 kills per set, while placing second on the team with 318 digs and 3.18 digs per set. set. She also leads the receiving list with 727, committing just 23 receiving errors out of 100 sets played.
UAH expects the 2021 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships to begin this weekend as the No. 2 seed of the league tournament, which will be held at the No. 1 seed of Florida from the Where is. As the No. 2 seed, the Chargers received a pass to the semifinals on Saturday.
