Frederick wins the 100 breaststroke; Three ladies earn all-conference honors Friday at SCAC Championships

Garland, Texas – The centennial men’s and women’s swim teams wrapped up day three of the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday as three ladies earned all-conference honors to help them climb to fourth place and highlight the action of the day at the Garland ISD Natatorium.

The Gentlemen remained in seventh place and now have 124 points. The Ladies, fifth after Thursday’s action, now have 269 points. Trinity remains the leader in both men’s (688) and women’s (610) heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.

Senior Madelyn Frederick (Slidell, La.) marked Centennial Day by winning the 100-yard breaststroke in a career-best 1:12.29 to earn all-conference honors. Her victory is also only the fourth individual victory for a centenarian swimmer at the event since the brown and white joined the conference prior to the 2012-13 season. She earned all-conference honors for the second straight season after earning them as part of the women’s 200 medley relay team that finished third.

Senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) had an impressive day and finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.45 to earn all-conference honors. Serret was also fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (58.04). Serret, who earned all-conference honors for the third straight season, made history at last season’s SCAC championships by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.29, marking the team’s first individual win. program in the event and was the third centenarian. female swimmer to win an individual title and now Frederick is the fourth. Junior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.) was the third female centennial swimmer to earn all-conference honors on Friday as she earned a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:13, 18 as the ladies took first and third place with Frederick and Malicoat.

Senior Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, Louisiana) posted the men’s best individual result of the day placing fifth in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 57.81. The Gents finished seventh in the 400 medley relay championship final with a time of 3:48.19 swam by Lulich, senior Tripp Montgomery (New Iberia, La.), Freshman Cash Coats (Andrews, Texas), and sophomore Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.). The ladies placed fifth in the 400 Medley relay final, as Serret and Frederick teamed up with rookie Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) and senior Margot Frost (Prairieville, La.)

Saturday’s action begins at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by the final at 5:45 p.m. Centenary finished fourth in the men’s and women’s championships last season in San Antonio, Texas.
