SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior Quinn Helmig of the Union College men’s lacrosse team added one more honor to their resume last week, earning Scholar All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Union was also recognized for its academic achievement as a team this season, winning a USILA Academic Team Award. The Dutch were one of 43 Division III schools to win the prestigious honor as a team with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
All Scholar All-Americans applicants must be a student with an advanced academic standing and a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale who behaves in a way that does him or herself, to his establishment and collegiate lacrosse both on and off the field. Applicants must also be an All-American, a member of a North / South All-Star team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Helmig was all that and more for the Dutch during a formidable senior season, taking second-team All-America honors to USILA and IMLA long-stick midfielder. He was also selected to compete in the USILA North / South All-Star Game and was also recognized in the All-Liberty League First Team. The long stick placed fourth on the team with 21 balls on the ground and finished sixth in the Liberty League with 12 induced turnovers at the top of the team, while also scoring one goal and distributing five assists for a peak. career six points.
Helmig was one of 10 Liberty League student-athletes recognized on the National Elite List, which honored 81 Division III athletes.
