Lauren Ware of Arizona named to Team USA for Women’s Under-19 World Cup

Entering second year onwards Lauren Ware, who can still be classified as a freshman due to COVID-19 affecting last season, has been named to the 2021 United States U19 Women’s World Cup squad.

She is one of 12 athletes to be named to the team and is one of two Pac-12 players on the team. Te-Hina Paopao from Oregon is the other. UCLA Coach Cori Close is the head coach of the team.

Ware and Team USA will kick off the U19 World Cup in Hungary on August 7th.

Ware played an important role in the Arizona squad that competed in the program’s first Final Four this season. She played in all 27 games and finished second on the team in blocks (with 30, Sam thomas had 33) and the team’s fourth in rebounds (3.8 per game).

She landed a double-double in her third career game against USC, scoring a season-high with 12 points and 12 rebounds and her second double-double against Idaho with 10 points and 13 rebounds, a record high in career. including eight offensive rebounds.

Ware had 10 games with at least five rebounds]and blocked a shot in 21 of Arizona’s 27 games and had three blocks twice.
