ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Clemson’s men’s soccer program took home four All-South honors after the 2020-21 season, United Soccer Coaches reported on Tuesday afternoon. Kimarni Smith, Philip Mayaka, Grayson Barber and Oskar Agren occupy four of 33 places among the three teams in the South region. Over the past two seasons, Clemson has won nine All-South honors, signaling the highest two-year total in the program’s history.
Smith is the only Clemson winner in the South Region first team, as Barber and Mayaka were named in the second team and Agren was classified as third team. Smith and Mayaka are taking home all-region honors for the second time in their careers after both receiving first-team recognition in 2019. Barber and Agren each picked up their first all-region honor following the announcement of today.
Smith, Mayaka and Barber were members of the Tigers ‘fall 2020 roster and the three players opted to seize professional opportunities ahead of the Tigers’ first game of the 2021 spring season. Mayaka signed a Generation adidas contract in January ahead. to be selected with the third pick in the 2021 SuperDraft MLS by the Colorado Rapids. Now a regular in DC United’s starting XI, Smith left Clemson after being selected fourth in this year’s draft. Barber signed a local player contract with Sporting KC on January 20, marking the return to his former academy club to begin his professional career.
United Soccer Coaches will announce this year’s All-America honors on Thursday, May 13. The All-Region and All-America teams are selected by vote by the member coaches of their respective divisions.
