Mica Mountain Bolsters Playoff Bid; Cienega remains at n ° 10 in 5A

The top eight teams from conferences 4A-6A make up the open division.

Teams ranked high in 4A, 5A and 6A can qualify for the open division, thus increasing the teams in the conference standings.

The following is a rundown of the open division standings at 4A (the 1A state playoffs are in the semi-finals and the 2A and 3A state playoffs begin on Friday).

Open division

  • Open: The top eight teams from conferences 4A-6A

6A, 5A, 4A (group of 16 teams): To qualify, a school must have played a minimum of six (6) games. Once the qualifying teams have been added to the Open Division’s state tournament slice and removed from the conference leaderboard (if applicable), the remaining teams will be ranked # 1 through 16 and will constitute the tournament slices. of state. State Tournament Slices will be ranked based on the AIA Overall Rankings generated by MaxPreps. State tournaments will consist of four rounds and will be knockout.

  1. Chandler (9-0)
  2. Hamilton (9-0)
  3. Bacha (10-0)
  4. Saguaro (8-1)
  5. Cactus (9-0)
  6. Freedom (7-2)
  7. Reine Creek (7-2)
  8. ALA – Queen Creek (8-1)

13. Salpointe (7-2)

NOTES: Salpointe remained in 13th place after winning over Mountain View last week. The Lancers are essentially out of the game for five spots in the Open Division with a week to go in the regular season. The Lancers finish 32nd over Flowing Wells on Friday.

6A, 5A, 4A: Teams ranked from 1 to 16 after selection of the participants of the open division:

5A

  1. Saguaro (8-1)

2. Horizon (8-1)

3. Salpointe (7-2)

4. Desert View (8-1)

5. Desert Mountain (8-1)

ten. Cienega (6-3)

14. Marana (7-2)

15. Ironwood Ridge (5-4)

NOTES: Only Saguaro is currently in the Open Division leaderboard (indicated by its red list above), meaning if the season ended today, Salpointe No.3 would be seeded No.2 in the 5A playoffs, Desert View would be no 3, Cienega no 9, Marana no 13 and Ironwood Ridge no 14.… The game between Ironwood Ridge in Marana on Friday could be a playoff game for the state playoff 5A , which makes it a playoff game in itself. … Despite last week’s regional victory in the 5A Sonoran at Marana, Cienega did not move up the standings, which is hard to believe as Marana was No. 11 last week. This means that the Bobcats are currently unable to host a first round game (the top eight teams host so Cienega needs to earn a spot for that to happen). They don’t have a game scheduled for this week as Rincon / University was forced to forfeit due to a lack of healthy players.

4A

  1. Cactus (9-0)

2. ALA – Queen Creek (8-1)

3. Casa Grande (9-0)

4. Butte Poston (7-2)

5. Mesquite (5-3)

14. Canyon del Oro (5-4)

15. Mica Mountain (3-2)

NOTES: CDO has earned a spot despite his absence last week and the Dorados finish the regular season this week 38th overall against Sahuaro. Being essentially at No.12 because Cactus and ALA-Queen Creek are currently in the Open Division, the Dorados may be high enough to avoid losing ground to the struggling Cougars, but that’s not a given. … Mica Mountain in 13th place (along with Cactus and ALA-Queen Creek in the open division) is in a more solid position to advance to the playoffs, incredibly in his first season at the varsity level under. Pat nugent, playing at No. 12 Bradshaw Mountain this Friday. … Catalina Foothills under the direction of the first year coach Daniel Sainz won the 4A Gila title with last week’s victory over Empire and is ranked No. 24. The Falcons host No. 36 Douglas on Friday.

  7. Saguaro (6-1)
  8. Haute-Terre (6-1)

13. Salpointe (6-2)

NOTES: Salpointe has come down one spot at # 13 and Desert View, # 15 last week, is no longer listed. The 5A South timetable for both schools affects their nominal power. The other regional teams are No.26 Mountain View, No.27 Buena, No.33 Flowing Wells and No.40 Cholla.

6A, 5A, 4A: Teams ranked from 1 to 16 after selection of the participants of the open division:

5A

  1. Saguaro (7-1)
  2. Horizon (7-1)
  3. Salpointe (6-2)
  4. Desert View (7-1)
  5. Verrado (7-1)

ten. Cienega (5-3)

11. Marana (6-1)

18. Ironwood Ridge (3-4)

NOTES: Only Saguaro is currently in the Open Division leaderboard meaning if the season ended today Salpointe No.3 would be the No.2 seed in the 5A Playoffs, Desert View would be No.3 , Cienega No 9, Marana No 10 and Ironwood Ridge would have a playoff spot at No 17.… Marana (7-1, 3-0 5A Sonoran) did an about-face with Cienega (5-3 , 3-0). These teams play Friday in Marana to get closer to the 5A Sonoran title. The game could catapult the winner into the top 8 and improve the possibility of hosting a first-round state playoff game. Ironwood Ridge (4-4, 2-1) hosts the 34th Nogales on Friday, which could hurt the Nighthawks’ standings.

4A

  1. Cactus (8-0)
  2. ALA – Queen Creek (8-1)
  3. Butte Poston (6-2)
  4. Casa Grande (8-0)
  5. Mesquite (5-3)

15. Canyon del Oro (5-4)

19. Mica Mountain (2-2)

NOTES: CDO, coach under 13 Dustin the peace, remained competitive in the fourth quarter against No.4 Casa Grande but lost 28-6 last week. The Dorados remained at No.15 and contested for the playoffs following the loss. They have that week off before ending the regular season next week at No. 35 Sahuaro. … With Cactus and ALA – Queen Creek currently in the Open Division, CDO would be the No. 13 seed in the 4A playoffs if the season ended today. … Mica Mountain, number 19, would be in a 4A playoff spot in 17th place. The Thunderbolts, in their first year of college competition, host Number 30 Amphi on Friday. Mica Mountain coach Pat Nugent scheduled impromptu home games against the 6A powerhouse of Mesa Mountain View (No.10 team in 6A) and Salpointe, which boosted the Thunderbirds’ might. … Empire # 31 (5-4) will host # 27 Catalina Foothills (4-4) on Friday for the 4A Gila title. Based on their rankings, it looks like neither will make the 4A State qualifiers. Again, the region’s 4A-6A champions do not automatically qualify for the state playoffs. The playoffs are based on power rankings.
