The New York Chiropractic College will now be known as the Northeast College of Health Sciences.

The school announced Tuesday that the new name has been chosen to best reflect the changing scope of educational opportunities offered at the college and to support the evolving range of growing health professions.

In a press release, the college said a name change was formally addressed in the NYCC BLUEprint 2018-2021 strategic plan, and in June 2019, the college board unanimously voted for a name change. Although the process was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the college obtained approval for the state’s new name on Monday.

The new name reflects the Northeast College of Health Sciences’ emphasis on connecting students from diverse academic backgrounds with a strong range of integrated health care programs. The change also signals a new chapter for Northeast to create even more space for new collaborations and opportunities advancing healthcare education.

The college is over 100 years old. It moved from Long Island to Seneca Falls in 1991, spanning a 286-acre campus with space for new facilities including an expansive library, sports center, and residences. Another academic expansion, in the early 2000s, saw the addition of graduate degrees in disciplines such as applied clinical nutrition and the teaching of human anatomy and physiology.
