AUSTIN, Texas – Texas junior midfielder Julia grosso was named to United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest region third team according to a statement from the organization on Tuesday.
For Grosso, it was his third consecutive selection from all regions of United Soccer Coaches (first team in 2019, second team in 2018). With its inclusion, the Texas program has now received 56 total accolades from United Soccer Coaches All-Region dating back to 1995.
A 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist pick, Grosso has managed to make his usual strong impression on the pitch for the Longhorns throughout the split 2020-21 campaign. The Vancouver, BC product started all 12 games in midfield (played 1,055 of possible 1,080 minutes) for the Burnt Orange & White and led the team in goals (five), assists ( four) and total points (14).
The 2020 All-Big 12 second-team selection was particularly effective during the spring portion of the campaign, scoring goals in three straight games for the first time in his illustrious career. The match winners beat both Texas State (March 5) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 26) along with one goal and two assists in a 4-0 loss to Baylor (April 1) in Waco. For his efforts, Grosso won two Top Drawer National Soccer Team of the Week honors (October 13, 2020 and April 6, 2021).
