Vashi’s ex-entrepreneur asks to change the name of the tennis complex

Navi Bombay: Divya Vaibhaw Gaikwad, a former Corporal Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) from Vashi has written to CIDCO, demanding to change the name of the Navi Mumbai Sports Association (NMSA) tennis complex, located at Sector 1A in Vashi. At present, the name of the tennis court is Ganesh Naik Tennis Complex (GNTC).

Gaikwad claimed that many women approached her and demanded that the name of the tennis resort which follows the name of Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik be changed as there was an allegation of rape and threats against Naik.

She said: “Naik is accused in a rape case and the name of the tennis academy after him is a disgrace. The girls and women who visit the complex and play the game feel that the name of the academy should be changed to convey a good message,” Gaikwad said. She added that the tennis complex can be renamed after a sportsman or a social activist.

A Nerul woman had made allegations against BJP Airoli MLA Naik for threats and rape. She initially alleged that she was in a relationship with Naik and that they had a 15-year-old son. Now she is claiming her son’s rights from Naik. Two FIRs have been registered on this subject. Naik had approached Thane Magistrates’ Court with a bail application before the arrest. The hearing is set for April 30.
