BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Athletics capped the spring semester 2021 by breaking another class record, with student-athletes achieving the highest career GPA in department history.
The cumulative career average for all WKU student-athletes is 3.19, beating the previous benchmark of 3.14 set in spring 2020.
Thirteen of the 14 WKU athletic programs have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and each program has a GPA of 2.9 or higher. About 64% of all student-athletes currently maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
A total of 144 student-athletes were named to either the university’s Dean’s List (semester average 3.4 to 3.79) or the President’s List (3.8 or higher) this spring.
WKU Athletics previously set a new department record this month with 66 student-athletes receiving the United States Conference Commissioner’s Academic Medal for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher during the 2020-2021 academic year. A record 208 WKU student-athletes were also named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for maintaining a GPA of at least 3.0.
WKU Athletics’ promotion for Spring and Summer 2021 had a cumulative GPA of 3.35, the highest in the department since at least 2010. In the 2020-2021 school year, 90 student-athletes achieved graduated from WKU – including 27 who graduated in December – with a GPA of 3.27.
